Training Contracts

We regard our trainees as the firm’s future and we therefore seek to ensure that we recruit trainees who genuinely have a keen interest in our business, our practice areas and our clients and who want to make a significant contribution to the firm’s success.

Structure of the Training Contract

We recruit two trainees every year, in April and October. Training seats are currently offered in four of the following disciplines:

  • Corporate/Commercial
  • Commercial Property
  • Private Client
  • Litigation
  • Family
  • Travel
We appreciate that during your training contract you will face many new challenges. We provide all trainees with an extensive support network to ensure you get the best from each of your seats. All of our trainees are allocated an individual training principal, usually a partner, for each seat. Performance reviews are held at the mid-point and end of each six month seat, although discussions on work are held on a regular, even daily basis with your principal who is there to encourage your progress.

The Ideal Applicant

We look for the following from our trainees:

  • A strong academic record
  • A well rounded profile
  • Wide extra curricular interests
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Commitment
  • Enthusiasm
  • Commercial acumen
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise
  • Problem solving and analysis skills

The Selection Process

If you consider you have the necessary pre-requisites to forge a successful career with us, complete our application form and mail with a supporting handwritten letter of application as detailed on the form.

If your initial application is successful we will invite you for an  initial interview at which point you will meet two members of our Trainee Committee. If successful at that stage, you will be invited back for a second interview when you will be interviewed by a further two members of the Trainee Committee. If successful, we will then invite you to undertake a two week summer placement with the firm.

Offers for training contracts will be made in the following weeks.

Qualification

Our aim is to retain as many of our trainees as possible upon qualification which is why we invest so heavily in training and support.
